Government incentive programmes
As more and more government incentives are used to promote the use of sustainable energy solutions, we can help you navigate the bureaucracy and deliver solutions that help you to access financial support.
In the UK, feed-in-tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive are the two most significant ways in which you can earn money through sustainable energy:
Feed-in-tariffs
A feed-in tariff is a payment for any electricity you generate from a renewable source. It was introduced to encourage the uptake of renewable energy.
What systems are eligible for feed-in-tariffs?
The electricity can be generated by any Microgeneration Certificate Scheme approved technology and product; from solar PV to wind turbines, and the rate is paid regardless of whether you use the electricity yourself or export it to the grid. On top of this rate (currently as high as 43.3p per unit) you will get a 3p export tariff (per kWh) for every unit of electricity you export to the grid.
How much could I earn?
Under the Feed-in-Tariff, an average home in the UK, with a 2.5kW system installation could earn around £900 a year generating and exporting its own solar electricity. You can also save over £130 a year on your electricity bill. To calculate how much you could save and payback times for solar electricity please use our solar electricity calculator.

Renewable heat incentives
The UK Government is soon to introduce the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) – payments to support the uptake and use of renewable heat technologies.
Which technologies are eligible?
Full details of the scheme are yet to be released, however it is likely that True Energy’s renewable heating systems – from solar thermal panels to wood pellet boilers – will be eligible for the RHI. To ensure you can get these, you need to use a Microgeneration Certification Scheme certified installer (provided by True Energy).
How much could I earn?
Payments could exceed £2500 p.a. for a four bed detached house for biomass. Some organisations will also provide grants or interest free loans for installing some renewable technologies.
