Solar electricity

Solar photovoltaic systems are a powerful and proven way to generate your own electricity, either through grid connected or off-grid systems for the home or the workplace – and receive feed-in-tariff payments for the next 25 years.

How it works

Solar photovoltaic systems – or solar PV – use solar panels to convert the sun’s energy into electricity, which can be anything from a few kWs to enough to power homes and small/medium businesses. Systems can be either off grid or grid-connected and are eligible for feed-in-tariffs. The solar panels themselves are readily available, easy to fit and can be roof mounted or free standing. It all depends on your requirements and your location.

Benefits

  • Proven technology
  • Easy to install
  • Lower your carbon footprint
  • Reduce or even eliminate your energy costs
  • Earn revenue from feed-in-tariffs

Other considerations

In April 2010, the government introduced feed-in tariffs to promote the use of renewable energy in the UK. Income is based on the amount your installation generates and can be as high as 43.3p per unit of electricity, even if you use it rather than feed it into the grid. To ensure you qualify for tariffs you need to use a Microgeneration Certification Scheme certified installer like True Energy. See feed-in-tariff link for more details.

For most properties there is no need for planning permission (subject to certain guidelines) as solar panels are usually considered 'permitted development'.
